Alfredo Martirena Hernandez was born in October of 1965 in the city of Clara Saint, Cuba, and in 1984 he started to collaborate in the humorístico weekly Melaito. In 1986 it conquered the prize "25 Years of Mood of Palante". In 1987 the Ear published its first book "Of Ear", for the Pablo publishing company of la Torriente.
Besides having participated of others eight collective expositions, one of its works was selected to integrate the book "Fumetty Cuba", edited in Italy, together with others twenty Cuban quadrinistas.
It has collaborated with following Cuban publications: Rebellious Juventud, Bohemia magazine, Palante weekly, Tribune of La Habana, Mater Soul, Habanera among others. Internationally it collaborated with the Chocarreros magazine and periodical Just Medio (Mexico), Garrotazo (Argentina), El Jueves, Batracio Amarillo, Quevedos magazine, Sapoconcho (Spain), Bronkit (Portugal), El Nuevo Diario (Nicaragua) and magazine Witty World (U.S.A.) specialized in
mood. |

(Cuba) was jury in the Biennial International of San Antonio of los Baños and some of its drawings had been seleccionados for elaboration of
"filminutos" for the ICAIC.In 1999, it travelled for the Switzerland invited for the ONG
"Sofonias", to elaborate an established book of historietas in the trajectory of the related institution with the
heading: "20 AÑOS OF SOFONIAS". In 2000 del Sur was in Nicaragua to elaborate a humorístico mural in the balneario of San Juan
("Colonial" hotel), in this exactly year came back to
Switzerland, of this time
guest for the Impuls gallery, to display 40 of its works. He jointly displayed its workmanship with the one of Swiss painter Mirko
Slongo, in the prestigious gallery "Villena" of the UNEAC
(City of Havana), in 2003.
The Foundation of the University of Alcalá de Henares (Spain), invited it to participate it of the delivery of the Quevedos prize in 2001. In recent
research, carried through for the press specialized for the edition of the book "Los 20 del siglo 20", was selected enters the caricaturistas most excellent of century XX in
Cuba.
It finishes to publish plus a book with the Spanish publishing company "El
Batracio", under título:"HUMOR IN VITRO", and illustrated another infantile
one, for another publishing company of this exactly country, "EL PULPO
ATAULFO". It is member of the UPEC and the UNEAC. Of
self-taught formation. It accumulates 30 national and international prizes more

Nació el 6 de octubre de 1965 en Santa Clara, en el año 1984 comenzó a laborar en el semanario humorístico MELAITO, en 1986 alcanzo el gran premio del concurso 25 AÑOS DE HUMOR DE PALANTE. En 1987 publico su primer libro personal, "DE OREJA A OREJA", con la editorial Pablo de la Torriente, además ha participado en otros 8 colectivos, uno de sus trabajos fue seleccionado para integrar el libro editado en Italia "FUMETTY A CUBA", que recoge la labor de 20 historietistas cubanos contemporáneos.
Desde sus inicios como caricaturista ha colaborado con las publicaciones siguientes:
Juventud Rebelde, revista Bohemia; semanario Palante, Tribuna de La Habana, Alma mater, Habanera, entre otras.
Internacionalmente: Mexico: revista "CHOCARREROS", periódico "Justo Medio", Argentina:"Garrotazo", España:"El
Jueves", "Batracio Amarillo"; revista "QUEVEDOS", "Sapoconcho", Portugal:"BRONKIT" Nicaragua: “El nuevo Diario”, y en USA: revista "WITTY WORLD"(especializada para el humor).
Ha sido jurado en la Bienal Internacional de San Antonio de los Baños, algunos de sus dibujos fueron seleccionados para la elaboración de filminutos por el ICAIC.
En el año 1999, viajo a Suiza invitado por la ONG, "Sofonias", para elaborar un libro en historietas basado en la trayectoria de dicha institución con el titulo: "20 AÑOS DE SOFONIAS".
En el año 2000 viajo a Nicaragua, para elaborar un mural humorístico en el balneario de San Juan del Sur, (en el hotel "Colonial”), ese mismo año viajo a Suiza nuevamente, esta vez invitado por la galería IMPULS, para exponer 40 de sus dibujos.
La fundación de la universidad de Alcalá de Henares, lo invito a participar en la entrega del premio QUEVEDOS del año 2001.
En reciente encuesta realizada a la prensa especializada para la edición del libro “Los 20 del siglo 20”, fue seleccionado entre los caricaturistas mas relevantes del siglo veinte en Cuba
Expuso su obra conjuntamente con la del pintor suizo Mirko Slongo, en la prestigiosa galería "Villena" de la UNEAC (Ciudad de la Habana), este año.
Acaba de publicar un libro con la editorial española "El batracio", con el titulo:"HUMOR IN VITRO", e ilustro otro infantil, para otra editorial de ese mismo país, con el titulo "EL PULPO ATAULFO".
Es miembro de la Unión de Periodistas de Cuba, y de la Unión de Escritores y Artistas de Cuba. |
